Background

Lake Murray Dam Park is located near Saluda Shoals Park. This small park is operated by South Carolina Electric and Gas, and is mostly comprised of a boat ramp, parking lot and picnic area.

Lake Murray Dam Park is one of three areas that make up the Columbia Area, the other two are Saluda Shoals Park, and Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve.

The best birding is done here in April/May, and September/October.

Red-shouldered Hawk, Barred Owl, Hairy Woodpecker, Brown-headed Nuthatch, House Wren.

Summer

Mississippi Kite, Acadian Flycatcher, Red-eyed Vireo, Wood Thrush, Northern Parula, Yellow-throated Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, Swainson’s Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, Summer Tanager, Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, Painted Bunting, Orchard Oriole.

Winter

Common Loon, Horned Grebe, Bald Eagle, Bonaparte’s gull, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, White-crowned Sparrow, Fox Sparrow.
